Mo Mambo

October 4th, 2011

Here’s another kids shirt I’ve done for those lovely guys at Mambo for the Summer 2012 range.
They wanted surfer, pirate, seagulls in a vintage Cali style and this is what I came up with and features the totally awesome Mambo FB Holden.

Anyfu!

August 23rd, 2011

I’m very fortunate to have worked with some really cool companies and clients and no exception to these are Anyfu.

Anyfu is the brain child of two very clever chaps called Jason and Justin and aims to be an upmarket talent sourcing resource.
The best description I can think of is to imagine that oDesk and eLance are your Poundland and Anyfu being Tiffany & Co.

Jason and Justin also run a podcast called TechZing in which they discuss a lot of tech stuff that is way above my vector head but also they’ve been sharing the road to the start up of Anyfu.

I found in this episode that they talked about the design of Anyfu and working with yours truly:)

Below is the character design for the site and was to be a kind of Kung Fu master, techy fella.

Working with these guys was a great experience, especially chatting (and laughing) via Skype.

Bagcheck Characters

August 23rd, 2011

A while back I worked with Luke Wroblewski to create some characters for a project he was working on called “Bagcheck” which is a site where people can share their kit with others.
We arrived at creating a set of super-heroes to depict some of the different topics.
I just heard that Bagcheck has recently been acquired by a company called Twitter (whoever they are:).

Good on ya Luke!

Here’s a group from the Bagcheck site and below are a few of the character designs.

Beijing Olympic Stories

August 4th, 2011

Thought I’d share a sneak peek of an animation I’ve been working on.

It’s for a programme on ESPN called “Beijing Olympic Stories”.

It’s the rough cut so no sound.

The Mighty Boosh

February 19th, 2011

I just thought I’d introduce the latest member of the family, Boosh.

Before you ask, yes he has no hair on his body and no he’s not ill, he’s supposed to look like that.

He’s a Chinese Crested but they also go by the name African Hairless Terriers or Punk Dogs but I prefer ‘Mutant’.

They’re a pretty ancient breed and there are many theories of their origin. Some say Africa, some say from the Aztecs.
All I know is we got him from Rotherham and he cost a bomb.

Although we’re big fans of the Mighty Boosh TV show he doesn’t get his name from that rather from the “Boosh” (bush) of hair on his head.
He eats pretty much anything including Lego and he has a taste for curry but boiled egg whites weird him out a bit.

Here are a few Boosh facts:

• His body temperature is several degrees higher than normal dogs and they were use as hot water bottles by the Aztecs.
• He owns more t-shirts than I do and bathes more often than I.
• He loves to sun bath but we have to put factor 30 on him.
• He doesn’t like the cold.
• He begrudges me playing guitar and drops his guinea pig on the strings when I do play.
• He’s great at walking on his back legs and I’ve also seen him walking on his front legs which is weird.

He is the Boosh, The Mighty Boosh!

Reg Mombassa at Semi-Permanent.

February 14th, 2011

I just found this via Design is Kinky and it’s my own personal design Jesus, Reg Mombassa who’s going to be speaking at Semi-Permanent in Sydney later this year.
The work of Reg is one of my biggest inspirations and one of the things that made me pursue becoming a designer/illustrator.

I had the huge pleasure to meet the guy in Sydney (sorry for name dropping) some years back and he’s such a nice chap.

Really wish I could make it over.

Lurve is in the air

February 14th, 2011

I’m still in a Mambo groove and I must have been under some subliminal influence with this one as it’s Valentines Day today.

This one’s for you Claire:D

Really must stop designing Mambo shirts and get out more!

Mambo shirt. Yay!

Iso-Iso-Baby

January 21st, 2011

I recently uncovered a piece that I did a while back for a good client of mine.

It’s an isometric view of the Baitul Futuh Mosque that was sadly never used but it gave me the chance to work in isometrics again which was one of my first loves of illustration from when I got hold of my first ellipse guide back at college.

I think I got the bug again and can feel an iso city on the cards:)

Happy 2011-Aaaachooo!

January 4th, 2011

I just wanted to wish everyone a very happy 2011.

It’s been quite an eventful time over the holidays here when it started off with us getting about 3ft of snow and temperatures dropping to the -20′s along with flakey broadband to boot. Brrrr!

After being completely cut off and house bound for almost a week it was great to dig our way out, shake off the cabin fever and see humanity again only to return with a dose of Swine Flu just in time for Christmas:(

I want to apologise to anyone I’ve not contacted over the holidays as I’ve been well and truly out of action.

Bring on 2011!
